There is no unfinished business with God.
This is such a simple, yet important truth to remember as we begin each day.
I’ve often started projects which I didn’t get around to finishing. Despite the good intentions, life gets busy and other more important things take priority.
There is great peace in knowing that God doesn’t do things to simply kill time. When God starts something, He always completes it.
looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. – Hebrews 12:2
Often the purpose for us starting a project will determine the outcome. If your purpose was to build a bridge, then you would not stop until you’ve reached the other shore. Anything less would not be known as a bridge, it might be a pier at best.
However, if your purpose in a task, was simply to pass time, then completion is secondary.
God always works with a plan and purpose in our lives. We can rely on Jesus to complete the work of faith in us, because He was the one who started it.
For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, 9 not of works, lest anyone should boast. – Ephesians 2:8,9
Christ came and completed the task set before Him. He didn’t stay on the cross nor is His body still in the tomb. Jesus defeated sin and death, He died and rose again, before returning to heaven where He ever lives to intercede for us.
Therefore He is also able to save to the uttermost those who come to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them. – Hebrews 7:25
Jesus continues to intercede for us because part of His salvation plan is to be with us as we complete our walk so that one day we will be with Him where He is, heaven. From the very start, your salvation came with a promise and a guarantee of completion.
In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise, 14 who is the guarantee of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, to the praise of His glory. – Ephesians 1:13,14
If you trusted Jesus to bring about your salvation, then you can trust Him to be with you in that new life, guiding us and keeping us all the way to the end. Jesus is the author and the finisher of our salvation. He will never let you down, He will never leave you nor forsake you and He leaves no unfinished business.
being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ; – Philippians 1:6
