Procured, Preserved, Protected
Who are being guarded (garrisoned) by God’s power through [your] faith [till you fully inherit that final] salvation that is ready to be revealed [for you] in the last time. -1 Peter 1:5 AMPC
In 1 Peter vs 3-4 we read how God the Father has Procured [obtained] for us our eternal inheritance through the new birth. Through the mercy of God the Father we are born again into a living hope through Christ’s death and resurrection. Through His death and resurrection, Jesus Christ obtained/procured for us this inheritance which will never perish, tarnish, be defiled and it will not decay. It is reserved and Preserved for us in heaven.
The word ‘kept’ can be seen as Preserved, but also guarded shielded and in the Greek it is garrisoned [The Greek word for “guards us” is phrouroumenous, which comes from a military term (phrouria) meaning “a fort” or “an army garrison stationed to defend a city.” You are continually being watched over and Protected by God’s mighty power. TPT. Our full salvation/inheritance is Protected in heaven and is waiting for us and nothing can touch it nor take it away.
You’ll note in verse 5 that it’s God’s power that Preserves us but our faith and trust in Him plays a part too. God has played His part and kept His promises, however, there are conditions to this promise! We still have to play our part in continually trusting Him each day to Preserve and Protect that which He has Procured for us through Christ His Son. This leads to our full salvation which will be revealed on the day of Christ Jesus when He returns. This is the climax of our salvation which is ongoing till that day. We were saved, [verses 3-4]. We are being saved [verses 4-5a] and we will be totally saved on that day. [Verse 5b]
How do we apply these verses? Simply, we pop down to verse 6a You should be exceedingly glad [joyful] on account of this. In other words, because of all that’s been Procured, Preserved and Protected for us to enjoy eternally, this should fill us with eternal joy now! Question to take away with us, “does it?”
Prayer
Thank You heavenly Father for all that You have Procured for us in and through Christ Jesus. Thank You that it’s imperishable, Preserved and Protected by Your mighty Power and therefore, I rejoice in my eternal salvation and inheritance through Jesus Christ. Amen.
