We are bound together in love.
‘Bind us together, Lord, Bind us together With cords that cannot be broken. Bind us together, Lord, Bind us together, Bind us together with love.
There is only one God, There is only one King; There is only one Body, That is why we sing:
Made for the glory of God, Purchased by His precious Son; Born with the right to be clean, For Jesus the victory has won.
You are the family of God, You are the promise divine; You are God’s chosen desire, You are the glorious new wine.’
These are the words of a long forgotten song, which was once very popular.
It was written in 1974 by Bob Gilman, when there was a great spiritual outpouring on the church, which affected all denominations.
God wants us to experience the power and joy of being bound together as one body. We can do far more together than apart.
There is only one church, one body of Christ, despite the many claims and differences.
I, therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you to walk worthy of the calling with which you were called, 2 with all lowliness and gentleness, with longsuffering, bearing with one another in love, 3 endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. 4 There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called in one hope of your calling; 5 one Lord, one faith, one baptism; 6 one God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all. – Ephesians 4:1-6
This letter to the Ephesians is so relevant to the church today. It points out clearly that there is only one body, one spirit, one hope, one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and father of all. If this was properly understood, we would stop so many arguments and splits.
Non of us have all the answers, but God works throughout His whole body to bring understanding.
We are stronger together, when we work as one body, which our enemy hates and will work against. A body needs to be bound together in order to function well and God himself puts people in place to serve toward that end.
And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers, 12 for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ, 13 till we all come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a perfect man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ; – Ephesians 4:11-13.
I pray today that we will walk worthy of our calling, being unified in our service to God as we bear with one another in love. That we all have an increasing desire to see His body thrive and grow in the unity of the spirit and the bond of peace. Above all that even if there is a physical distance between us, we would be bound together with cords of love which cannot be broken.
