LET THE REDEEMED OF THE LORD SAY SO!
With all the competing voices we hear in life, do you feel you never get to have your say? Or perhaps you’ve decided it’s best to say nothing at all.
These eight words have been ringing in my ears and I hope they are a great encouragement to you as they are to me.
LET THE REDEEMED OF THE LORD SAY SO!
Oh, give thanks to the Lord, for He is good!
For His mercy endures forever.
2 Let the redeemed of the Lord say so,
Whom He has redeemed from the hand of the enemy, 3 And gathered out of the lands,
From the east and from the west,
From the north and from the south. – Psalm 107:1-3
As part of our thanksgiving for all God has done for us, we should let others know. Our positive words and testimony of God’s goodness is a powerful tool and should dominate our conversation.
The testimony of God’s goodness is reserved for God’s people. It is unique to those who are truly redeemed of God and a recognition that nothing of this world was involved in our redemption, only God was able to bring this about.
knowing that you were not redeemed with corruptible things, like silver or gold, from your aimless conduct received by tradition from your fathers, 19 but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot. – 1 Peter 1:18,19.
This is not just something we do on Sundays or special days. We should be known as people who praise our God continually and in all circumstances.
I will bless the Lord at all times;
His praise shall continually be in my mouth.
2 My soul shall make its boast in the Lord;
The humble shall hear of it and be glad.
3 Oh, magnify the Lord with me,
And let us exalt His name together. -Psalm 34:1-3
When we make the Lord our boast and worship Him, it will make those around us glad and bring hope, even in hopeless situations. As we are redeemed, so our language changes to be life affirming and ever thankful to the one who redeemed us.
All too often people are quick to criticise, destroy and bring others down with their words, particularly on social media. Sadly, many who profess Christ as theirs saviour join in and show no difference. I would suggest, this is not the life-giving language of the redeemed.
We must remember that our words are powerful and in light of our redemption, should be life affirming.
Death and life are in the power of the tongue,
And those who love it will eat its fruit. – Proverbs. 18:21
We know that God looks at the heart, and the words we speak are a good indicator of our heart condition. Jesus made this clear in His teaching.
A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart brings forth evil. For out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks. – Luke 6:45
King David had a revelation of God and understood the power of redemption when he wrote this plea to God.
Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart
Be acceptable in Your sight,
O Lord, my strength and my Redeemer. – Psalm 19:14
I pray that we will be those who count themselves as the redeemed of God. That our love for God leads to a desire for our words and meditation to be acceptable in His sight. That our thankfulness for His redemption would lead us to letting many others know by our words and actions.
Today, let the redeemed of the Lord say so!
