What is Peace? It’s often associated with a sense of wellbeing, having all the important things in place.
However, when trouble comes, our peace can sometimes walk right out of the door. That’s because our peace is connected to our focus. Peace is shattered when the object of our focus is disturbed. That’s not to say what we are focussing on is not important, but neither should one bad thing in our life have the power to take away our peace.
Has your Peace gone? Are you now left with a knotted stomach and inner turmoil?
One good technique is to zoom out with your focus and imagine you are looking down from a great height on your whole life not just your current situation. You may then see there are far more things in your favour than against you. For instance, we are all three part beings, body, soul and spirit. If our body lets us down, we can be happy that the other two are in good shape and so on…
The bible says He (God) will keep in perfect peace whose mind is fixed on Him.
Take a moment to refocus, breathe deeply, and allow your mind to rest on something outside of yourself.
David in the bible seems to do this writing in the Psalms, when he looks to God instead of his situation and says, he makes him lie down in green pastures and leads him beside still waters and restores his soul. Even in the very darkest place, when he is facing his enemies and death itself, he is at peace because he chooses to take focus off his dire circumstance and place it firmly on God. When we actively trust in God He helps us to see from His perspective and we can begin to access peace.
