Money is usually the first thing we worry about in times of crisis. We as the human race have the inbuilt need to take care of ourselves and provide for our families. God cares about us enough to help us in time of need. Here’s what Jesus said about the situation:
(Mathew 6:26-27)
“Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? Which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature?
Do you realise that you are of high value? Your life is precious in the eyes of the Lord. He takes care of the birds that are insignificant compared to a human life.
So our first step to deal with financial concerns is ‘Don’t worry, God cares for you dearly”
Verse 31 goes on to say…
(Mathew 6:31-33)
“Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.
So does this mean that we do not need to work because God will just take care of us?
No, not so.
There’s a proverb that says,
“Lazy hands make a man poor,
but diligent hands bring wealth.
and when God first created mankind He gave them a job. He gave them work to do! He said to them ‘look after the Garden, take care of it’ (Genesis 2:15)
So we can see that it is wise to first trust in the Lord and then get to work believing that He will guide your steps. (Proverbs 3:5-6)
But what If I can’t get any work?
Remember the words of Jesus from Mathew 6? Read them again if you need to. The key here is to Trust Him and then make a move. Do what you believe is right. He will bring opportunities to you along the way.
He made you unique. You have ideas and abilities inside you that you may not have even known exist.
In your own words pray this prayer
“Jesus help me trust you every day. Thank you for making me unique. Thank you for giving me value. I ask you for wisdom in what to do right now in this situation. I believe that you want to take care of me and I put myself into your hands. Lead me and guide me. Amen.
