Be thankful for God’s great gifts and benefits
Today I’m reminded of the great gifts God gives us and how much we have to be thankful for.
Do not be deceived, my beloved brethren. 17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning. – James 1:16,17
There are times when we work hard and would like to think that every good thing we enjoy is because of our own endeavour. James points out the true source of every good gift and every perfect gift. It comes from God who is good and perfect.
Even the strength to work hard is given by God. Don’t be deceived it is God who gives us all good things.
The psalmist says:
Blessed be the Lord,
Who daily loads us with benefits,
The God of our salvation! Selah – Psalm 68:19
God is not mean in His giving, He loads His blessings on us daily. God alone is the one who brings about our salvation.
James reminds us that anything truly good or perfect in our life, comes down from the father of lights and in him there is no shadow of turning.
Unlike other lights which diminish and grow dim, God’s light will never grow dim, because He is perfect light.
There is no variation. The world around us is in a constant state of change and we can sometime find ourselves struggling to adapt. But God never changes, so we can always rely on Him and approach Him with confidence.
There is no shadow of turning. This always reminds me that two things are needed to make a shadow, light and an obstacle to that light. Many people live their lives in darkness because they have turned their back to the one true light. They walk in the shadow or their own rejection of Christ.
Even some followers of Christ struggle with shadows in their lives where they have turned away from God’s perfect light in some areas. All that is needed for you to walk fully in His marvellous light and enjoy His many blessings is to turn fully toward God. Allow God’s light into every area of your life and darkness will flee.
This is the message which we have heard from Him and declare to you, that God is light and in Him is no darkness at all. 6 If we say that we have fellowship with Him, and walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. 7 But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin. – 1 John 1:5
God wants to load His great benefits and blessings on you today as you turn fully to Him. We can enjoy the great gift of fellowship with each other and cleansing from all sin as we walk fully in His light today.
